Mrs. Shuyler's Class

General Education

My name is Susan Shuyler and I am so excited to be teaching math and literacy in 5th grade at Cotton Creek!  I have been a substitute teacher at Cotton Creek for many years and my kids attended Cotton Creek from kindergarten through 5th grade.  I completed my student teaching with a 5th grade class in Jeffco and have done multiple long-term teaching assignments in fifth grade at Cotton Creek and Arapahoe Ridge so I feel very comfortable with 5th graders.  I am looking foward to being a part of the 5th grade team and working with students to help them grow as readers and expand their mathematical thinking.

I came to teaching after spending 10 years in the high-tech industry in manufacturing operations.  I started volunteering in classrooms and realized that teaching was what I really loved.  After completing a teaching certification program through CU Denver, my husband and I found out we were expecting twins.  Being a first year teacher with newborn twins sounded like a bit much so I started substitute teaching instead.  My son was diagnosed with autism around the age of two which required a lot of therapy and made continuing with the flexibility of substitute teaching the right choice for our family at the time.

In addition to my teaching certification, I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Marketing from CU Boulder and an MBA from the University of Denver.

I am a Colorado native and grew up in Loveland.  My husband and I met at CU and have been married 26 years.  Our twins Sarah and Ben are now 15 and are freshman at Legacy High School.  We also have a crazy Boston Terrier named Abbey and a very chill bearded dragon named Groot.  Both of my kids love music.  Sarah plays flute in the Legacy Marching Band and Ben plays the piano.  We spend a lot our weekend time supporting the marching band, cheering on the Broncos and watching Formula One racing.
