My career as a kindergarten teacher began with an early curiosity for learning and making new things. My mother taught me to read-although I claimed as a preschooler that I was self-taught. My father instilled in me, also from a young age, that service to others was not only necessary, but is what makes humans unique from other living things. I grew up in the Adams12 School District in Northglenn, CO graduating from Thornton High School in 1979. I attended Front Range Community College and Regis University where I majored in Elementary Education graduating in 1985. I have been teaching primary students ever since!
After marrying my husband David in 1985, I was fortunate to teach kindergarten at the American Community School of Athens, in Greece. I next taught kindergarten or first grade in both public and private schools in Colorado. In 1993 I began a stay-home-mom phase following the births of Celia, Alaina, and Joe. All three of my children attended Cotton Creek Elementary, Huron and/or Silver Hills Middle Schools, and Northglenn High School. I re-entered Adams12 at Malley Drive Elementary in 2002 before joining the faculty of Cotton Creek in 2006 teaching the Half-Day kindergarten classes. In 2016 I moved to the Extended Day Kindergarten Program. Kindergarten is your child's first year in formal education. Curiosity is abundant in these youngest students and delivering our rich curriculum to fuel that curiosity is an exciting challenge for me. I look forward to working each day among such kind and dedicated colleagues, hard-working and ethical administrators, and involved and giving families!
During vacations from school, you will find me on Face Time with my grandsons, Carl and Xavier; playing Boggle, Quiddler, or Farkle with my 93-year-old mom who lives at my house; lounging with my nose in a book; learning ASL with my sister-in-law Karen who joined our family in 2019; traveling; or preparing for upcoming lessons! Thank you for choosing Cotton Creek Elementary for your child's education.
